Maram al-Masri, née en 1962 à Lattaquié en Syrie, est incontestablement une voix qui compte et une poétesse reconnue dans l'univers de la poésie arabe. En effet, son recueil Cerise rouge sur carrelage blanc, publié en 1987 à Tunis, reçoit un formidable accueil de la part de la critique des pays arabes, et en 1998, le Prix du Forum culturel libanais, qui récompense la création littéraire arabe, lui a été décerné. Sa poésie ne se limite pas à la sphère des pays de langue arabe : outre le français qu'elle maîtrise parfaitement, ses poèmes sont traduits dans de nombreuses langues (allemand, anglais, italien, espagnol, serbe, corse, ou encore turc). En 2007, elle obtient le Prix de poésie de la Société des Gens de Lettre, avec son recueil Je te regarde, prix qu'elle partage avec Bruno Doucey. En 2008, les Editions Seghers ont publié en édition bilingue son recueil Je te menace d'une colombe blanche d'où sont extraits les 32 poèmes qui composent cet album, interprété en français et en arabe. Ces textes, interprétés par l'auteur lui-même pour la langue arabe et par la comédienne Céline Liger pour le français, sont ponctués ou accompagnés d'extraits musicaux. Presented here are the results of a collaborative exchange between poet Demosthenes Agrafiotis and composer Michail Palaiologou. Poems from Agrafiotis’ Chinese notebook text are performed by the poet and by the musicians, resulting in a speaking of the poem in different mediums. The musical score developed by Palaiologou ‘transliterates’ the Chinese notebook poems into pulses through the use of Morse Code. The piece was first performed, in an earlier form, at Birkbeck college on April 28th 2009. Below we have included, as well as a video recording of the now completed piece in performance, the author’s and composer’s notes, the score for the piece and the poems themselves.
